Car and Driver End up in Lehigh River

A white Chevy Malibu ended up in the Lehigh River on Wednesday, along with the driver.
Authorities said the driver felt sick and started to fall asleep behind the wheel.
Somehow her vehicle wound up in the Lehigh River near Gouldsboro.
Crews took the driver to the hospital.
The car has been pulled from the river.

Homeowners in part of Pike County are being put on alert after another house was set on fire.
Autorities said Thursday it is the fifth case of arson in the Newfoundland area in the past six weeks.
Officials said those five arsons were all at vacant or abandoned buildings, within 15 miles of each other. Most of the fires were in Wayne County. The latest one happened in Pike County.

A woman charged in the death of her baby girl is headed to trial.
Jennifer Barrise of Lake Ariel was in court Wednesday morning where she gave up her right to a hearing.
Barrise and the infant’s father, Christopher Fitzpatrick, are charged with killing their newborn daughter in late May and then concealing the death.
Police said Fitzpatrick used a cinder block to kill the baby in a wooded area…

Vacant House Gutted by Flames

Firefighters in Wayne County were called out early Friday to battle flames at a vacant house.
Crews were called about 5 a.m. to a house on Route 196 in Sterling Township.
The fire chief said the house had been abandoned for at least 10 years.  All that is left are smouldering ruins.
Officials said this is the third suspicious fire in the area in the last few weeks.

Woman Pleads Guilty to Theft Charge

A former secretary treasurer in Wayne County pleade guilty Thursday to theft charges.
Police said Joann Kelley, 52, of Lake Ariel stole nearly $80,000 from Paupack Township over an eight year period. She faces up to 12 years in prison.
A judge ruled Kelley must also play back $78,000 of the money she stole.
