Many incandescent light bulbs are now on their way out, being replaced by those that use less energy.
As of January 1, the federal government started phasing out 100-watt incandescent light bulbs as part of a multi-year push toward energy efficiency.
At The Home Depot near Honesdale, there are more than 100 light bulb options that are 70 percent more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs.

A state police fire marshal is trying to determine what caused a fire that destroyed a restaurant in Wayne County.
A charred pile of wood is all that remains from The Water’s Edge Restaurant at Lake Lorraine Golf Course near Pleasant Mount.

In the higher elevations of our area, we saw something on Thursday that we haven’t seen much of this winter, shoveling and plowing snow.

Flames ripped through a home Saturday afternoon in Wayne County.
It happened at a house on Cemetery and Savitz Road in Salem Township.
The chief said when his crews arrived they found flames shooting through the roof of the home.
A neighbor said he saw smoke, kicked in the door, and rescued several pets.

A bank in Wayne County is cleaning up after an early morning burglary.
State police said someone smashed the glass front doors of The Dime Bank in Damascus shortly after midnight Friday and got inside the bank.
Investigators said the person then forced open drawers at some of the teller stations and took rolls of coins.

Accused Child Rapist Charged in Wayne County

A suspected child rapist was brought back to Wayne County Monday from New York state where he where he was being held on a probation violation.
Police said Frank Neglia gave alcohol to a 15-year-old girl at a party in Equinunk last July, then sexually assaulted her.
Neglia was brought to Wayne County based on the warrant for his arrest in the case.

Police in Wayne County said George Doll of Oklahoma was a superintendent for Henkles and McCoy, Inc  working on a pipeline project that stretches from Uniondale in Susquehanna County through Wayne and Pike counties.

One person is dead after an early morning crash in Wayne County.
The crash happened on Route 670 in Mount Pleasant Township, north of Honesdale.
Authorities said one man was killed when he lost control of his pick-up truck around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Troopers said the truck flipped several times before the man was thrown from the vehicle and pinned underneath.

Snow blew through parts of our area Friday morning, sticking to roads and making the morning drive tricky.
Snow was sticking to Route 29 in Dimock and drivers said getting traction was a problem.
It was a similar situation in parts of Wayne and Monroe and counties.
Snow was coming down on roads near Tobyhanna but traffic was moving smoothly.
 
 
 
 

Man Charged with Soliciting Teens to Sell Drugs

Police in Wayne County arrested a man Thursday and charged him with soliciting teens to sell drugs for him.
According to investigators, James Wells, 29, of Honesdale offered a 14 year old, a 17 year old and an 18 year of $1,000 each to sell cocaine, marijuana and pills for him.
Wells is locked up on $250,000 bail.

Flames tore through a family’s home in Wayne County.
The fire started around 9 p.m. Thursday at the place on Little Keen Road in Clinton Township, near Waymart.
Crews tell Newswatch 16 a couple lived here.
